You Got Hurt.
(And it wasn’t your fault)
Trauma has become a buzzword on social media, but it’s much more than that. Our lives are shaped by the experiences we have and our bodies store that information to make sure we’re always prepared in case of a future threat. While trauma manifests in a variety of ways, here are some of the areas I work with clients on healing:
Treatment trauma - Unfortunately, a lot of the systems designed to “help” can often hurt instead. If you’ve been harmed by your time in eating disorder treatment, you deserve the space to process and heal.
Cults and high demand religion - Spiritual abuse/religious trauma is far more common than you think, but it isn’t talked about nearly enough. No matter what you’ve been conditioned to believe, you are deserving of healing, and there is hope.
Attachment trauma - I believe that no therapy modality is more transformational than the power of connection. If your caregivers or other important figures in your life weren’t able to show up for you in the ways that you needed, therapy with a trauma-informed therapist can help you learn to trust again.
Natural disasters - Now offering support for North Carolina residents affected by Hurricane Helene, including those struggling with survivor’s guilt, those working tirelessly on the frontlines in search and rescue/utility restoration,, those navigating the scarcity of resources, and those experiencing vicarious trauma due to the onslaught of media images of the destruction left behind.
As an adjunct to traditional talk therapy, I use Brainspotting when indicated to promote deeper healing and processing in the brain AND the body. Our bodies have profound wisdom and the ability to heal if we practice listening and allowing them to speak. Brainspotting gives our brains the ability to create new connections and move our bodies from the fight, flight, or freeze response from the past to safety in the present moment. Brainspotting can address any number of issues, from unresolved anger to general anxiety, and clients may start to notice shifts in just a few sessions (though everyone is different).
